Cristina Antonucci
Psy.D Clinical Psychologist
About Me.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in San Diego, California. I'm a queer non-binary therapist who specializes in identity transitions, anxiety, and trauma work. I am also certified in EMDR. I obtained my doctorate from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois. I completed my internship at Johns Hopkins University Counseling Center and my Postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago Counseling Center. Additionally, I have worked in outpatient clinics, a Level 1 trauma emergency room, an inpatient facility, an integrative holistic center, and private practice.

My speciality is working with emerging adults and young professionals who are struggling with identity transitions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and LGBQTIA+ issues. Outside of private practice, I'm a faculty psychologist at San Diego State University Counseling and Psychological Services, where I provide individual therapy and supervise doctoral students in clinical psychology. I also have a therapy dog Luna who is available upon request!

In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature, making art, and playing music.
My Approach.
Going to therapy takes courage! I view therapy as a co-created space, where every person has a unique set of struggles and healing journey. I work with you to understand your goals for therapy and come up with a plan for the best way to move forward. My hope is to be a guide toward reconnecting with your authentic ways of being. I help folks get curious about their life, challenge negative internalized beliefs, get unstuck from difficult patterns, make meaning of life experiences while creating more choice and freedom. My approach is one of respect for each human being. I deeply value the relationship between therapist and client. I hold a warm, direct, open, and safe emotional space to explore your concerns. Life is an ongoing process of learning and unlearning and I view therapy in a similar light.

I hold an integrative approach to treatment, drawing upon neuroscience, attachment, humanistic, multicultural/feminist theory, internal family systems (IFS) and existential models of healing. I am also trained in EMDR. Understanding our social and cultural context is essential. I often work with people navigating the effects of systems of oppression and work with you to find creative solutions that are aligned with your values.
